Scott served on the Newport Beach City Council from December 2014-December 2018. Scott has been involved in politics for over 30 years and involved in many campaigns.
THE STRAIGHT SCOTT?
Scott had a political column for the Newport Beach Independent under the column name "The Straight Scott". Scott chose that name because of his straight shooting style. No one is ever confused about where Scott Stands on an issue.
BACKGROUND?
Scott is a licensed architect with over 40 years’ experience in the construction and real estate profession. He received a BS in Architecture from the University of Illinois, moved to Orange County and started his architecture career. In 1992 he started his own real estate consulting firm.
Scott served on the Newport Beach Planning Commission from 2006-2010; he also chaired the Commission for a term. During this time he helped lead implementation of the comprehensive zoning plan of the 2006 General Plan Update as approved by the voters. This was a comprehensive overhaul that changed the approach to the zoning code.
FAMILY?
Scott and his wife Linda met at Mariners Church 42 years ago in Newport Beach; they have been married 40 years. They have lived in Newport 13 years. They have three grown children; two graduated from Corona Del Mar High School, where both excelled in water polo and swimming. Their son and his wife have three children (and Scott and Linda’s three grandchildren). Their youngest graduated with her Masters in Sports Management, where she had a water polo scholarship.
Scott and Linda are both committed to their church, where Scott is a lay leader in the Men’s Ministry. And in past years, Scott was also a scoutmaster for Brian’s Boy Scout troop, where the Eagle Scout tradition was passed from father to son.
